The Community Violence Intervention League (CVIL) is a coalition of grassroots organizers, intervention specialists, and city partners dedicated to reducing violence through healing-centered, community-led strategies. As the Community Violence Intervention League gained visibility and federal funding opportunities arose, Choice Habit LLC was engaged to enhance their back-office operations, improve their compliance position, and develop a robust grant strategy. They also provided training for the leadership team to effectively navigate the complexities of funding, audits, and multi-partner coordination, while ensuring effective risk management.
Assessed the Community Violence Intervention League’s existing workflows, contracts, and documents to identify risks and inefficiencies. Developed a comprehensive risk management plan that included stakeholder risk profiles, funding gaps, and compliance indicators as part of a robust grant strategy. Created a digital project control system using Monday CRM to effectively track milestones, outputs, risks, and financial metrics.
Authored and implemented the Community Violence Intervention League’s Procurement Policy, Code of Conduct, Conflict of Interest Statement, and Vendor Engagement Protocol. Developed a federal-grant-compliant documentation suite, including vendor registration forms, grant budgets, and monthly reporting templates, as part of our grant strategy. Reviewed and edited Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with law enforcement, nonprofit partners, and local health agencies, ensuring effective risk management throughout the process.
Delivered live training modules for board members, staff, and community leaders on:
OMB Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200)
Ethical procurement and vendor selection
Budget planning and reporting alignment
As part of our commitment to enhancing the grant strategy for the Community Violence Intervention League, we also focused on risk management principles.

Supported planning for upcoming DOJ and city grant applications by aligning narrative language with internal capabilities and compliance protocols, focusing on a strong grant strategy. Coached the Community Violence Intervention League staff on how to position their work for RFP eligibility and what documentation would be needed post-award, emphasizing the importance of risk management.
The Community Violence Intervention League (CVIL) successfully transitioned from reactive operations to a structured, audit-ready organization in under 90 days. This transformation increased city funding confidence and made CVIL eligible to lead collaborative community violence contracts as a prime contractor. Staff reported enhanced confidence in their grant strategy, partner coordination, and discussions with funders, thanks to Choice Habit’s effective advisory framework, which also emphasized risk management.
