Hoops for Peace 31 represented a major milestone in a longstanding movement that blends sport, civic engagement, and community healing events. In this 31st year, the scale was larger, the audience more diverse, and the partnerships more complex. Choice Habit LLC played a crucial role in the event planning strategy, serving as the strategic and operational lead behind the scenes—ensuring that the event not only ran smoothly but also met the visibility and accountability expected by stakeholders and potential funders.
Designed a vendor intake system with embedded compliance checks, allowing organizers to rapidly onboard local businesses during community healing events while aligning with funding source expectations. Conducted real-time procurement planning as part of an effective event planning strategy, including in-kind donation tracking, quote standardization, and delivery coordination for supplies (banners, medals, signage, AV equipment, etc.) to enhance sports civic engagement. Developed a working procurement matrix linked to itemized budgets to ensure visibility and alignment for all team members.
Provided coaching and advisory support to the organizing team for community healing events, equipping them with event planning strategies that included planning timelines, risk assessments, and contact/vendor mapping. Developed and executed a logistics support checklist covering set-up, staff rotations, speaker protocol, and post-event breakdown responsibilities, all crucial for effective sports civic engagement. Advised on vendor compliance with fire, safety, and insurance regulations per city ordinances for public venues.
Assisted with the development of branding collateral for community healing events, including: event flyers (print + digital), an opening ceremony run-of-show, and sponsor thank-you packets. Additionally, developed talking points and background briefs for community leaders, elected officials, and media attendees, enhancing our event planning strategy to promote sports civic engagement.
Created a post-event wrap-up report featuring data visualizations, partner recognition, and proof of deliverables for future grant justification related to our community healing events. Additionally, I coached youth speakers on storytelling and presentation skills, which are crucial for our event planning strategy, especially for city council follow-ups and engaging social media reels that promote sports civic engagement.
Zero vendor issues, full budget tracking, and streamlined coordination across four partner groups have made our community healing events more effective. This organized execution and compliance readiness have increased our credibility with local government and corporate sponsors, enhancing our overall event planning strategy. We delivered a funder-ready event model complete with assets, tools, and templates that can be reused and scaled by future event planners, particularly those focused on sports civic engagement.
